Q: What is DermaBase?

*A: DermaBase is an organization and tool for disadvantaged medical students interested in dermatology to find additional clinical research opportunities.*

Q: Who is it for? Who can apply?

*A: Current medical students who meet enrollment criteria if they are classified as disadvantaged includes: those who are underrepresented in medicine, as defined by the AAMC, or those who did not have a dermatology home program, mentors in the field, socioeconomic support, or current dermatology research projects.*

Q: What are some accomplishments of DermaBase?

*A: Since March 2023, we have had work on 16 abstracts, 7 manuscripts, and mentorship opportunities with 3 different residency programs. We are growing at an exceptional rate while also serving the needs and ambitions of our disadvantaged students interested in dermatology (DSID).*

Q: What steps do I complete to sign up?

*A: Please email **[email protected]** to begin the application process. Applications are only open currently for medical students. If you are a resident, please email us and we can help you find DSID groups to meet your research goals on open projects. The requirement is that any student from DermaBase who contributes more than 10% to the finished product must be credited as an author. That is non-negotiable and not meeting this expectation will result in us not being able to help the resident with future projects. We hope you will understand that we are building a more diverse future in which DSID students are able to match into their dream Derm residency. Crediting authors appropriately will help us achieve this.*
